Default Ridvan Bird List

Good morning everyone, my name is Rowena and i work for CJ WIldlfie on a part time basis 3 days a week. the other 2 days i look after my 9 month old son - a full time job in itself!

So with spending some time at home in the week i thought i would keep tabs on the birds i have in my garden. (The name of my house is called 'Ridvan', hence the title!)

todays list as follows . . .

Male Robin - on the ground, pecking away
Thrush - building a nest in a large fir tree
Blackbirds - hopping accross a wall & on the ground
Greenfinchs, Goldfinches - quite a gathering on the seed & fat ball feeders!

will post more as i see them

Well Rowena, welcome.

It would be interesting to know how the garden breeding season has gone, I think most birds have had a good, productive year, apart from the Swallows and House Martins, sadly in my area they seem to be struggling The Tits, Finches and in particular the Starlings had done well, I think every Starling bred this year has been coming to my garden for their food.

Thanks Penna,
oh such a shame to hear the swallows and house martins are struggling with you. In contrast they are thriving at the CJ farm, with a hive of activity in the large buildings. They swoop accross the yard at a great speed.

Good to hear you are keeping the starlings well fed though, they can be quite demanding!

its all about the wood pigeons today! we seemed to have a constant stream of them, mainly perching on the birdbath. Its hot today so i expect they were coming for a nice dip! i also spotted a lovely chaffinch this morning. beautiful bright chest.

The crows have been taking over the fat ball feeder somewhat, but there were a few blue tits there once the crows went.

gosh, i have been a little tardy with the updates from the Ridvan garden.

we have had the usual gathering of finches on the feeders, no sign of the long tailed tits but that could be because we have not put out many fat products recently (and they do love the peanut cakes!).
we get an awful lot of crows mustling in on the fat products this time of year, so tend to put less out. I am not being mean to the crows, but they tend to take over the feeding area and scare all the other birds off! I put out a bit of loose seed onto the shed room for them instead.

hmmmm well unfortunately i have not been true to my work and filmed any action in the garden. this has largely been due to me getting married recently and spending lots of time organising the big day! back to earth with a bump now, so i shall start to keep tabs on whats going on in the garden.
i cleaned and filled my feeders last weekend, so there should be plenty of birds to spot. i did spot our bullfinch in the feeders in the garden next to us recently, he looked lovely and regal perched atop the beech tree!

Blackkcap is a super winter visitor, tho' staying here instead of spending the cold months down in Africa seems prosperous to me...
