Since summer ended (not that it actually ever got started up here) we have suddenly started getting loads of goldfinches in the garden. See the attached pic taken a few weeks ago. There are now too many goldfinches to be counted at times.

I did buy another nyger feeder, the pink chapelwood one. After taking your advice about redundant seed at the bottom this one seemed good in that the four slots all go down to the bottom. It seems pretty popular. I've seen four goldfinches sat on it on occasion but three seems to be the general maximum before a squabble breaks out. The greenfinches like it too.

Great picture, over the next few weeks your Goldfinch numbers will grow and grow.

Cheers guys.

Just in case anyone was wondering. The anti squirrel device is actually an upturned wok that had seen better days. It's held in place by a couple of jubilee clips. It works a treat. I had many hours of fun watching them trying to get round this, now they don't even bother trying any more.

I used to have an old pedal bin lid attached but as it got messier they managed to get a grip on top and get round it.

Of course, it needs to be a non stick wok

After all that kerfuffle of having to log in again (Why??), I've almost forgotten of what I was about to put - oh yes - thanks Penna, when I tried your link again it was perfectly OK. And I repeat, why must we log in again, having been members of this forum for longer than I care to remember? I thought at first it must be in respect of the photos on this thread, because they weren't uploaded directly to the thread as thumbnails, but then it happened again when I tried to reply. Are we in a state of Red Alert?
