Default Waxwing alert

Just experienced a delightful sight of 50+ Waxwings in the garden. I was drawn to the door by their unfamiliar but very characteristic sound. The sight of such unusual visitors around these parts has left me on a high! I remember only a couple of years ago driving to the other side of Cumbria just to see seven birds feeding! Now we have had a huge flock in the garden!

Only a week ago we were watching a female Blackcap (first time I have seen Blackcap in the garden) busy feeding on the cotoneaster berries right outside the study window.

They say things come in threes! Guess I best keep a close watch on the garden.

If the reports are to be believed, there are thousands of waxwings in the country at the moment - probably all eating their way in a southerly direction.
Pine Marten - I think you may have to take a short holiday a little 'up north' to see them although you may be lucky - hope so, they are a lovely sight.

Three waxwings seen on the pink berried rowan next door this morning but were rapidly chased off by the 'resident' mistle thrush. Just hope they grow in numbers and come back for another try. I just managed to get the binoculars on them in time - made me smile for the day!
