Default hibernating hedgehogs

I have at least 2 hedgehogs that come in the garden , I think.
and I would love it if one hibernated.
will a big dead leaf pile be ok as I can't afford the hedgehog houses that look like they will survive the winter...
and I can't make one as you have to have big wine crates and stuff and I don't live anywhere near wine shops.

and like me, I hope you fellow-wildlife-lovers will remind friends/family to check their piles of rubble/leaves/logs for hibernating hogs before making a bonfire.
