Just have patience, that's all. When I first put up my feeders I included a peanut feeder to attract Blue tits. Never saw any for quite some time and took down the feeder. After a month or so I decided to try again and put it up further away from the other feeders and left it there. After about a month, Blues appeared and started visiting the garden regularly. I now have four/five young ones every day feeding.

Chris,

I only feed Sunflower Hearts. Two feeders, one a 6 port tube feeder in a 'Defender' cage, the other an open 'Lantern' type nut feeder. The tube feeder is on one of the lower branches of an apple tree. The 'lantern' is on a free standing pole about 5ft 'flying' distance from the same apple tree. Both are well used by Blue and Great Tits. Greenfinches are now arriving in small numbers and the feeders are awash with Goldfinches during the winter. Maybe it has something to do with the siting.

I put vaseline on the pole to stop the squirrels scoffing everything and it has worked.

As Gandalf says, just have patience.

If they are in your area they will find you.

SAHBster

Best Regards,

SAHBster

I find this time of year now it's warmer they aren't going so much for peanuts, but they love fatballs. Peanuts crushed or chopped small, so they can't choke young birds if fed to them, can be put on bird tables or ground feeders, or mixed with seeds into melted fat (home-made fat balls). I have my fatballs in a feeder which holds 4-5 at a time.
