Default Sparrow Hawk sighting

Well she's back (our resident Sparrow Hawk) - beadily watching the smorgasbord of our feeders for her next meal!

I surprised her a couple of weeks ago by suddenly appearing at the kitchen window whilst she was devouring something underneath the rotary washing line (which she wasn't going to leave behind - big bloke at the window or not) - not 6ft from the window and 4ft from the back door - she must be hungry.

Hope you enjoy these as much as I did taking them - I was so lucky; I've finaly splashed out for a Digital SLR (Canon 550D) and discovered that the lenses of the cameras at work are the same fit. Unbelieveably I borrowed the 70-200mm and a lens doubler just for this weekend!

This first shot was when I opened the bedroom window to get a clearer picture - she didn't even move. Just looked at me!!

More soon,

Jack

Excellent photos Jack. The first one is superb. We get them often in the garden too - always just a little hidden - although one sat on the shed roof last week and then head-dived into my honeysuckle. The sparrows use it for cover but she came up without anything, but if only I'd had a decent camera too ..... (hope Father Christmas is listening !!)

I love the feather on his head in the first shot Jack. The expression on his face says it all.

Ours is back too - at the stage of zooming through like a Tornado. If it runs true to form, in a few weeks he'll be glaring at us from the apple tree.

Great pics...

I used to get some surprisingly good shots from my 10 megapixel Olympus [mju:] when combined with a little Adobe Photoshop tinkering. Although my Canon 550D has 18 megapixels I have yet to produce 1.8 times the quality! I still have to learn to use it properly.

Yeah! I know they preen a lot but how will she put that one back into place?! There were quite a few feathers out of place (you can see the left wing has one out too). Either she's been unsuccessful for a while and food has become more important than looks or she crashed into the Beech hedge following the Sparrows!!
